It is ultimately your attitude that will set you apart from other investors in the long run. Your long-term success as an investor hedges on your ability to control the following two key attitudes: The 1st is Contentment: We live in a debt-ridden, materialistic culture that has been heavily influenced through marketing endeavours that stir up feelings of discontentment and promote self-gratification. This attitude of “buy now, pay later” has gripped most of our financial institutions. Many of us have been caught up in the “more is better” mindset. We need to change our attitude about what we do with our money, as well as what truly makes us content. Ask yourself: “What would it really take for me to be able to enjoy my life to the fullest and be content?” Being content with yourself means: • that you are happy regardless of whether you have a lot or a little • that you are proud in making a worthwhile contribution to society • that you are self-confident about who you are and • that you are free of the pressures of acquiring material things in order to prove yourself.
