Ways to fund flight training?
I am a private pilot with 200 hours. I would like to finish the rest of my training through my MEI. I am able to fly with a Navy flying club at a reduced rate and have determined with them that it will cost an additional ,000 to finish my training.
How can I go about getting this amount to pay for my training. I know for a fact that no one is giving any type of student loans for flight training at this point in time, with an exception being Sallie Mae, however they only offer loans to ATP flight schools. I don’t want to spend 45k on training with ATP when I can get the same training for 10k.
That being said. Since there are no companies offering financing, what can I do? I have no credit cards, I am unable to get a personal loan because I am only 23 and the loan would be unsecured. I have no one able to co-sign on a loan for me. Is there any way I can get funding to complete my training?
No the flight school does not offer in-house financing. I have tried AOPA. I do work, but it will take upwards of 5 years of saving in order to pay in cash (making an hour), and I would like to complete this in a timely manner.
Why is it that those who want to get their cosmetology license and those that would like to be nurses can get all the funding in the world… but a pilot has to fund his own training out of pocket. They wonder why many accidents are attributed to pilot error and that they receive substandard training, when in all reality a pilot funds his own training, often accruing upwards of 60k in debt…
Are there any flight schools that would pay for my training if I agreed to fly for them for a certain amount of time?
I am unable to join the military.
I could care less about the money… I would just like to wake up and go to a job I love… not wake up trapped in an inescapable nightmare of flipping burgers for the rest of my life…

A lot of effort and spending for pilot certificates and licenses -
Especially with the pilot job market as it is presently -
10,000+ qualified jet pilots unemployed worldwide -
With your 250 hours you waste your time and money -
Should you have 2500 hours, ATP, jet experience, you might qualify -
That is in… 2015 ( ? ) if… the economy gets better -
Meanwhile, become a bartender – and make real money and tips -
Regional airline co-pilots first year salary is $18,000 -
McDonald’s would pay you better to flip burgers -

If you have your private and 200 hours, you are not that far away from a commercial you only need 250 hours. Commercial isn’t that difficult to obtain. Once you have it, get your Instructors Certificate and teach. That is one way and many have worked that direction. While teaching you build hours and someone pays you to fly.
There are a few programs that offer to help you. CAP is another option to get some flight time but be sure you get into a wing that has aircraft.
Scholarships are available, here is a list http://www.avscholars.com/AvScholars/Channels/Pay_for_Flight_Training/av_scholarships.htm A little help might be available from these.
Just keep working at it, you will get there. Adding a second job (even part time) and using that money for your flight time will also go a long way to helping you reach your goal.
